County Commissioner Eileen Higgins

It’s been over one year since Commissioner Higgins was elected to serve the residents and businesses of District 5 as its County Commissioner representing the Downtown and Brickell urban core, the sandy beaches of Miami Beach, tree-lined neighborhoods of Coral Way, and the colorful center of Latin culture in Little Havana.

An engineer by trade, with an MBA from Cornell University, she is a problem solver with a proven record of helping businesses and local organizations address the many complex issues facing our community. Her work as a Country Director in the Peace Corps and as a diplomat in the US State Department gives her the ability to look at local challenges with a unique perspective and in a compassionate manner. From more reliable transportation to sea level rise, from affordable housing to better paying jobs, she is a champion for the policies that help everyone in our community succeed.

As County Commissioner, Eileen has been an advocate for an improved quality of life and increased economic opportunities for residents and small businesses. She is fighting for transportation solutions and safer, walkable neighborhood as Chair of the TPO Urban Mobility Task Force; championing increased affordable housing opportunities as the Vice Chair of the Housing and Finance Committee; addressing equity gaps as Chair of the Community Disparities sub-committee; and defending green spaces and protecting the waters that surround us.
